A Journey Through Time: The History of Nepal & Pokhara

Our Journey: From Tradition to Modern Practice

Chandra Yoga was founded with a singular mission—to preserve the ancient wisdom of yoga while making it accessible to modern practitioners. Inspired by the timeless teachings of Himalayan gurus, the school began as a small ashram where students could immerse themselves in authentic yogic practices, far from the distractions of urban life.

Over the years, Chandra Yoga has grown into a globally recognized center, attracting students from all over the world who seek not just physical training but a holistic transformation.

Roots in Himalayan Wisdom

The heart of Chandra Yoga lies in the Himalayas, a region that has nurtured centuries of yogic tradition. Our founder, Dr. Sushil Yogi, spent years learning from traditional gurus in mountain ashrams, studying Hatha and Ashtanga yoga, advanced Pranayama, meditation, and Vedic philosophy.

This deep lineage ensures that every class, workshop, and teacher training at Chandra Yoga is rooted in authentic practice rather than commercial trends.

Milestones in Our History

  • 1990s:  Foundation laid by Dr. Sushil Yogi in the foothills of the Himalayas.
  • 2000s:  Expansion to accommodate international students; development of structured 200-hour YTT curriculum.
  • 2010s:  Integration of modern teaching methodologies, yoga therapy, and global certifications.
  • 2020s:  Launch of Chandra Yoga Retreats in Pokhara and online programs for global accessibility.

Our Philosophy Through Time

From the beginning, Chandra Yoga has emphasized that yoga is not just a series of postures, but a science of life. Our programs combine physical practice, breath control, meditation, and philosophical study to cultivate clarity, discipline, and spiritual growth.

Our history is more than a timeline; it is the story of transformation—for both our teachers and students.

Looking Forward

Today, Chandra Yoga continues to expand its reach while preserving its authentic roots. Every new student, retreat, and teacher training is a continuation of our journey—carrying forward the Himalayan wisdom into modern lives, helping practitioners around the world connect with the true essence of yoga.
